Role: Controls Firmware Engineer Location: Palo Alto, CA 94304 Type: 6 months Contract to Hire Pay Range: $64- $66./hr Mission Support the validation and controls engineering efforts behind Client's Energy residential products including Powerwall and grid-connected backup systems. Help develop, automate, and validate real-world testing environments for firmware and controls functionality tied to compliance, stability, and customer-facing energy features. Partner closely with firmware, controls, and validation teams to ensure reliable system performance across grid, battery, and power electronics applications. Day To Day Develop and support embedded controls functionality for residential energy products operating in real-time environments Work with Solar Simulators, Grid Simulators, and HiL/SiL systems to validate residential energy products. Develop automation scripts and tooling primarily in Python to support validation workflows and testing efficiency. Collaborate cross-functionally with Firmware, Validation, and Controls teams on troubleshooting, compliance testing, and feature validation. Participate in technical discussions around embedded systems, controls architecture, and power systems behavior. Must Haves Electrical Engineering background Embedded C/C++ within real-time or controls systems environments Strong understanding of electrical systems, power systems, controls systems, or embedded environments. Experience with validation, automation, or lab-based testing environments. Familiarity with HiL/SiL testing methodologies and controls system fundamentals. Python scripting/automation experience. Plusses Experience within automotive, battery, solar, grid, industrial automation, robotics, or other "anything that moves" industries. Hands-on experience with grid simulators, solar simulators, or compliance-focused testing.
