About the Shop
This family-owned, full-service automotive repair shop in Cleveland, Ohio, has served the community since 1979. The shop services domestic, Asian, and European vehicles, including fleet trucks and vans, and handles complex diagnostic concerns that other repair facilities have been unable to resolve.
With five service bays, five lifts, an alignment rack, and professional diagnostic equipment, the shop is looking for an experienced A-Level or strong B-Level Automotive Technician who enjoys troubleshooting challenging problems.
The owner is committed to helping technicians develop their skills through paid training, weekly technical discussions, and hands-on collaboration. This opportunity focuses heavily on diagnostics, electrical systems, and drivability rather than routine oil changes, tires, and brake services.
Key Responsibilities
Diagnose complex automotive electrical, drivability, engine performance, and mechanical concerns across domestic, Asian, and European vehicles.
Perform initial vehicle evaluations and road tests to identify concerns before repair work begins.
Troubleshoot intermittent problems, timing-related concerns, and difficult diagnostic issues using professional scan tools and factory-level diagnostic resources.
Perform approximately 75% diagnostic-focused work, with additional mechanical repairs, component replacement, maintenance, and inspections as needed.
Provide technical guidance to developing technicians, helping them understand diagnostic findings and appropriate repair procedures.
Document diagnostic findings, repair work, and parts needs using the shop's management system.
Research necessary replacement parts and coordinate repair findings with the service advisor and shop owner.
Help maintain efficient workflow and accurate diagnosis across approximately 20-30 vehicles serviced weekly.
Qualifications
B-Level Technician: At least 5 years of professional automotive repair experience with intermediate to advanced diagnostic capabilities.
A-Level Technician: At least 7 years of professional automotive repair experience with advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting capabilities.
Strong experience diagnosing electrical systems, drivability concerns, engine performance issues, and complex mechanical problems.
Ability to independently evaluate vehicles, interpret diagnostic information, and identify root causes rather than relying solely on diagnostic trouble codes.
Previous ASE or manufacturer certification required; previously earned certifications that have expired are acceptable.
Experience servicing multiple vehicle makes, including domestic, Asian, and European vehicles.
Own a professional collection of automotive repair tools and communicate technical findings clearly to other shop team members.
Compensation & Benefits
Pay: B-Level anticipated annual earnings of $65,000-$75,000; A-Level anticipated annual earnings of $70,000-$95,000. Actual compensation depends on the agreed pay plan and performance.
Pay Structure: Hourly or flat rate with a guarantee. Final compensation structure discussed during the hiring process.
Health Insurance: Up to $250 per month in reimbursement assistance toward independently obtained insurance coverage, including medical, dental, or vision.
Paid Time Off: PTO and major holidays offered
Paid Training: Employer-supported technical training and ongoing professional development.
ASE certification reimbursement offered.
Professional Equipment: Access to Snap-on diagnostic equipment, factory-level diagnostic capabilities, HP Tuners, and additional tools as needed.
Toolbox Relocation Assistance: Available for incoming technicians.
Team Activities: Weekly shop lunches, summer company outings, and an annual holiday party.
Why Work Here?
Focus on Real Diagnostics: Spend approximately 75% of your time troubleshooting electrical, drivability, and complex vehicle concerns instead of primarily performing routine maintenance.
Challenging Automotive Work: Diagnose vehicles referred by other repair shops when the original problem could not be resolved.
Professional Diagnostic Equipment: Work with Snap-on scan tools, factory-level diagnostic resources, HP Tuners, and a shop willing to invest in necessary equipment.
Training & Career Development: Participate in Wednesday morning technical discussions, receive paid training, and pursue continued certification and advancement.
Opportunity to Grow Into Leadership: The shop offers a potential career path toward a Lead Technician or Shop Foreman position, with higher compensation tied to meeting additional criteria.
Consistent Workflow: The shop currently services approximately 20-30 vehicles weekly, with existing technicians generally producing 40-50 billed hours per week.
Work-Life Balance: Enjoy a Monday-Friday schedule, no regular weekends, and potential early Friday departures.
A Family-Owned Team: Work directly with an owner who prioritizes technician development, collaboration, and continued learning.
