Job Details
Under the supervision of the Manager, Infection Prevention, the Infection Prevention Specialist is responsible for surveillance, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of hospital acquired infections (HAI).
Educates employees about infection prevention and assists in developing health system policies and procedures to ensure rigorous infection control standards.
Ensures compliance with TJC, OSHA, CMS, CDC, and other national agency recommendations and requirements.
Job Requirements
Bachelor's Degree required.
Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license preferred.
Minimum of three (3) years' experience in Infection Control / Prevention / Epidemiology, preferably in an acute care hospital.
Knowledge of patient care practices, education, epidemiology, infectious diseases, employee health, sterilization, disinfection, and sanitation processes.
Experience in implementation of regulatory and/or The Joint Commission initiatives and National Patient Safety Goals.
Schedule Information
Monday - Friday, days shift.
8 hours per day.
40 hours per week.
Additional Details
Infection Prevention Surveillance Activities including epidemiologic principles, statistical methods, and risk stratification.
Conduct ongoing surveillance using CDC infection criteria and investigation of nosocomial infections.
Assess environmental control through surveillance of water supply systems and air pressure relationships.
Participate in investigations of unusual hospital infection outbreaks with relevant authorities.
Report communicable diseases to county/state health departments and maintain records.
Assist in data collection and reporting for CDPH/CMS via Med Mined & NHSN.
Participate in quality/performance improvement activities related to nosocomial infections.
Function as a resource and educator for infection prevention and control practices.
Maintain compliance with national standards and regulatory bodies such as TJC, CDC, OSHA, FDA, and CMS.
Participate in continuing education to maintain current knowledge base.
Develop informational materials and assist in educational programs for hospital employees.
