Thoracic Pathologist Location: Valhalla, NY Schedule: Full-Time Day Shift Job Summary We are seeking a Board-Certified/Board-Eligible Pathologist with subspecialty expertise in Thoracic/Pulmonary Pathology to join an academic pathology team in Valhalla, NY. The Thoracic Pathologist will provide expert diagnostic interpretation of lung, pleural, mediastinal, and other thoracic specimens, including complex neoplastic and non-neoplastic pulmonary disease. The position involves close collaboration with thoracic surgery, pulmonology, interventional pulmonology, oncology, radiology, and molecular pathology to support comprehensive patient care. The clinical environment includes complex thoracic and pulmonary cases and access to interventional pulmonary procedures such as robotic bronchoscopy and lung biopsy, making multidisciplinary diagnostic collaboration particularly relevant. Responsibilities Provide expert diagnostic interpretation of thoracic and pulmonary surgical pathology specimens. Evaluate biopsies and resections involving the lung, pleura, mediastinum, chest wall, and related thoracic structures. Diagnose primary and metastatic thoracic malignancies, including lung carcinomas, mesothelioma, thymic and mediastinal tumors, and other thoracic neoplasms. Evaluate non-neoplastic pulmonary diseases, including interstitial lung disease, infectious processes, inflammatory conditions, vascular disorders, and transplant-related pathology, as applicable. Interpret specimens obtained through bronchoscopy, needle biopsy, wedge resection, lobectomy, pneumonectomy, and other thoracic procedures. Utilize immunohistochemistry, special stains, molecular testing, and predictive biomarkers to support diagnosis and treatment selection. Coordinate appropriate ancillary and molecular testing for lung cancer and other thoracic malignancies. Integrate histopathologic, clinical, radiologic, and molecular findings into comprehensive diagnostic interpretations. Collaborate with thoracic surgeons, pulmonologists, interventional pulmonologists, oncologists, radiologists, and molecular pathology specialists. Participate in thoracic oncology tumor boards and multidisciplinary case conferences. Provide intraoperative consultation and frozen-section interpretation as needed. Maintain accurate and timely pathology reporting. Participate in quality assurance, quality improvement, and laboratory compliance activities. Teach and mentor pathology residents, fellows, medical students, and other trainees. Participate in departmental conferences and educational programs. Contribute to research, publications, clinical studies, or other scholarly activities based on professional interests and departmental needs. Qualifications / Requirements MD or DO degree, or equivalent medical degree. Completion of an ACGME-accredited Anatomic Pathology (AP) or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (AP/CP) residency. Board Certified or Board Eligible in Anatomic Pathology or AP/CP by the American Board of Pathology. Fellowship training in Thoracic/Pulmonary Pathology, Surgical Pathology, or another relevant subspecialty with significant thoracic pathology experience preferred. Demonstrated expertise in the diagnosis of neoplastic and non-neoplastic pulmonary and thoracic disease. Eligible for or currently holds an unrestricted New York State medical license. Experience with immunohistochemistry, molecular diagnostics, and biomarker testing relevant to thoracic malignancies. Strong understanding of contemporary classification and diagnostic approaches for lung and thoracic tumors. Excellent communication and multidisciplinary consultation skills. Commitment to academic medicine, education, patient care, and quality improvement. Prior teaching, research, and/or academic pathology experience preferred.
