Senior R&D Electronics Technician

Location: Irvine, CA 92618

Pay: $33/hr-$39/hr

We are seeking an experienced Senior R&D Electronics Technician to support engineering development through prototype assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of electronic systems. This role partners closely with engineers to build, modify, and validate prototypes while performing advanced circuit-level diagnostics in a fast-paced R&D environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, repair, and test electronic assemblies, PCBs, subassemblies, and prototype systems.
• Perform advanced micro-soldering and rework on SMT, through-hole, and fine-pitch components (QFN, QFP, BGA, 0201/01005).
• Build and modify prototypes, cables, fixtures, and test equipment.
• Diagnose electronic issues using oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, and signal generators.
• Interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, assembly drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs).
• Support prototype bring-up, engineering changes, failure analysis, and product testing.
• Document test results, repairs, and engineering changes.
• Maintain an organized and safe engineering lab while assisting with process improvements.
• Mentor and support junior technicians as needed.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience as an Electronics Technician, Engineering Lab Technician, or in prototype development.
• Strong troubleshooting experience with analog and digital circuits.
• Advanced micro-soldering, PCB repair, and component-level rework skills.
• Proficient using electronic test equipment, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, and signal generators.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics and technical documentation.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in medical device or other regulated manufacturing environments.
• Background in high-reliability product development, failure analysis, and engineering change processes.
• Experience evaluating electronic components and supporting lab test setups.
• Prior experience mentoring junior technicians.

Education

• Associate degree in Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
