We are looking for a detail-oriented Sr. Accountant to support core accounting operations for a manufacturing company in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting close activities, and helping deliver reliable reporting that informs business decisions. Responsibilities:
• Manage journal entries, accruals, and ledger activity to keep financial records complete and accurate.
• Coordinate monthly and annual close tasks to support timely preparation of internal financial reporting.
• Prepare account reconciliations across cash, intercompany balances, fixed assets, inventory, and prepaid accounts, resolving discrepancies as needed.
• Review financial results, investigate variances and trends, and share practical recommendations with leadership and business partners.
• Contribute financial data and analysis used in budgeting and forecasting activities.
• Support compliance with accounting standards, internal procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements while strengthening documented controls.
• Assist with internal and external audit requests by organizing schedules, records, and supporting documentation.
• Process bi-weekly payroll, maintain payroll records, and help ensure payroll activities align with company policy and legal requirements.
• Partner with teams such as operations, procurement, and human resources to address accounting issues and improve reporting accuracy.
• Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, automate routine accounting tasks, and participate in system enhancements or implementations.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience in a staff accountant or similar role.
• Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial close procedures.
• Experience with GAAP-based accounting practices and financial reporting principles.
• Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with accounting or ERP systems.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines independently in a fast-paced environment while communicating effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Experience in manufacturing, distribution, food production, or a similar operational setting is preferred.
