Job Description

The Special Education Teacher collaborates with school administrators, general education teachers, related service providers, school psychologists, families, paraprofessionals, and district staff to develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) that support student success in the least restrictive environment. This role provides specialized instruction, promotes academic and behavioral growth, and ensures compliance with federal and state special education requirements.

Qualifications
  • Valid Arizona Special Education Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement.
  • Cross-Categorical Special Education endorsement or other appropriate Arizona Special Education certification.
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of school-based experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of special education laws, IEP development, and instructional best practices.
  • Ability to assess student needs, develop and implement IEPs, and monitor student progress.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to establish positive working relationships with students, families, colleagues, and district staff.
  • - Obtain and maintain Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) certification

  • Valid Arizona Special Education Certification (ADE)
Essential Job Functions
  • Provide specialized instruction aligned with students' IEP goals and Arizona Academic Standards.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Conduct academic and behavioral assessments and collect progress monitoring data.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, related service providers, administrators, and families to support student success.
  • Implement accommodations, modifications, and evidence-based instructional strategies.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, progress reports, and compliance records.
  • Supervise and provide direction to paraprofessionals and instructional assistants as appropriate.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, professional development, department meetings, and other required school activities.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress.
  • Create a safe, engaging, and supportive classroom environment that promotes student growth and independence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or Special Education administration.
