The Elite Nanny Team is seeking an experienced Special Needs Nanny for a private household in Northern Virginia. This is an exceptional opportunity for a highly qualified childcare professional who has experience supporting toddlers with developmental needs and understands the importance of individualized care, consistency, patience, and collaboration.
The successful Special Needs Nanny will provide dedicated one-on-one care for an 18-month-old child while working alongside other household staff. This position is ideal for a nanny with professional experience in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) or a background as a Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) who is comfortable incorporating therapeutic strategies and developmental support into the child's daily routine.
This household is seeking a nanny who understands that caring for a child with special needs requires more than traditional childcare experience. The right candidate will bring professional knowledge, sound judgment, excellent communication skills, and a genuine commitment to helping the child reach developmental milestones in a safe and supportive environment.
Special Needs Nanny Responsibilities
The Special Needs Nanny will be responsible for the child's daily care, development, activities, and transportation to scheduled therapy appointments. The nanny will work closely with the household team and follow established routines and recommendations provided by the child's professional care team.
Responsibilities may include:
Providing attentive, one-on-one care for an 18-month-old child
Supporting developmental, physical, cognitive, and social-emotional growth
Applying appropriate ABA skills and behavioral strategies when applicable
Supporting therapeutic exercises and developmental activities within the nanny's professional scope
Transporting the child safely to and from therapy appointments
Using a personal vehicle that meets the family's safety requirements
Maintaining a predictable and structured daily routine
Planning age-appropriate activities that encourage engagement, learning, movement, and social development
Monitoring the child's progress and communicating observations to parents and household staff
Following family instructions and recommendations from qualified therapists and professionals
Maintaining a safe, organized, and nurturing environment
Collaborating respectfully with other household staff
Providing consistent, reliable childcare throughout the scheduled workweek
Qualified Special Needs Nanny Requirements
The Elite Nanny Team is looking for a professional nanny with specialized experience working with children who have developmental or special needs. Candidates should have a strong understanding of individualized childcare and be comfortable working as part of a professional household team.
Ideal qualifications include:
Demonstrated professional experience as a Special Needs Nanny
Experience using ABA techniques or behavioral strategies, OR professional experience as a Physical Therapy Assistant
Experience working with infants and toddlers
Strong understanding of early childhood development
Ability to follow therapeutic and developmental recommendations
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Reliable, responsible, and safety-conscious
Current CPR and First Aid certification preferred
Valid driver's license
Safe, reliable personal vehicle
Clean driving record
Ability to transport the child to therapy appointments
Professional discretion and respect for household privacy
Ability to work cooperatively alongside other household staff
Long-term commitment to the position
Schedule and Compensation
This is a full-time nanny position in Northern Virginia, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
The compensation range is $26 $35 per hour, depending on professional experience, qualifications, specialized training, and overall fit for the household.
