Social Worker The Veterans Health Administration was seeking a Social Worker for the Inpatient Medical/Rehabilitation Service at the Eastern Oklahoma VA Health Care System. The Inpatient Medical Social Worker provides independent psychological and case management services, under supervision of an assigned clinical supervisor, to eligible Veterans and family members admitted to the hospital, helping address biological, psychological, social, and environmental needs. Montgomery VA Medical Center, 1011 Honor Heights Drive, Muskogee, OK 74401, until completion of the new hospital in Tulsa. At that point, the duty station will change to the new Tulsa location, James Mountain Inhofe VAMC, 440 South Houston Avenue, Tulsa, OK 74127. Incorporate each Veteran's socioeconomic status, culture, ethnicity, education, and other individual needs into treatment plans. Assist team members and trainees in understanding how biopsychosocial issues affect Veterans' health and response to treatment. Assess biopsychosocial functioning and needs of Veterans and family members. Formulate and implement treatment plans identifying problems, strengths, weaknesses, coping skills, and assistance needed. Conduct biopsychosocial assessments, Advance Directive education and completion, goals-of-care conversations, treatment, follow-up, resource assistance, and referrals in consultation with an assigned clinical supervisor. Document assessments, treatment, and conversations with Veterans and caregivers in the medical record in a timely manner. Use supportive, problem-solving, and crisis-intervention techniques with individuals, families, and groups. Use assessment information to identify appropriate treatment modalities in consultation with the assigned clinical supervisor. Monitor and evaluate ongoing treatment and adjust modalities, plans, and goals as indicated with supervision. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Veterans, staff, and representatives of community agencies. Collaborate with the treatment team to identify Veteran needs and strengths and assist with coordination of care. Provide treatment recommendations to Veterans, caregivers, and the treatment team under supervision of the assigned clinical supervisor. Apply fundamental knowledge of medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities, treatment procedures, medications, medication effects and side effects, and medical terminology. Perform other duties as assigned. Basic Qualifications: Must be a U.S. Citizen. Must be proficient in written and spoken English. Must have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Graduates of schools in candidacy status do not meet the education requirement until the school is fully accredited. Must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. VHA may waive the licensure or certification requirement for otherwise qualified applicants pending completion of state prerequisites for licensure or certification examinations, but this exception applies only at the GS-9 grade level. Applicants pending completion of educational, certification, or licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Must be subject to a background/security investigation. Selective Service registration is required for males born after December 31, 1959. Must complete all application requirements and online onboarding requirements. Must provide acceptable identification for employment eligibility verification. Must participate in the seasonal influenza vaccination program as required for Department of Veterans Affairs health care personnel. GS-9 Qualification Requirements: Must meet the basic Social Worker qualification requirements. No additional experience, education, or licensure beyond the basic requirements is required at GS-9. Must demonstrate ability to use a Veteran-centric approach when providing interventions and counseling for Veterans, family members, caregivers, and survivors. Must be able to assess psychosocial functioning and needs and formulate treatment plans identifying problems, strengths, weaknesses, coping skills, and assistance needed. Must be able to implement treatment modalities with individuals, families, and groups using supportive, problem-solving, or crisis-intervention techniques. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate with clients, staff, and community agency representatives. Must have fundamental knowledge of medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities, treatment procedures, common medications, medication effects and side effects, and medical terminology. GS-11 Qualification Requirements: Must have a minimum of one year of post-MSW experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in health care or another social work-related setting and licensure or certification at the independent practice level; or Must have a doctoral degree in social work from a school of social work, which may substitute for the required one year of professional social work experience in a clinical setting. Must demonstrate knowledge of community resources and ability to make referrals to community and governmental agencies. Must be skilled in independently conducting psychosocial assessments and treatment interventions with individuals from varied backgrounds. Must have knowledge of medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities, treatment procedures, acute and chronic illness, traumatic injury, common medications, medication effects and side effects, and medical terminology. Must be skilled in independently implementing treatment modalities with individuals, families, and groups experiencing psychiatric, medical, and social problems. Must be able to provide consultation to new social workers, social work graduate students, and other staff regarding psychosocial needs and the impact of psychosocial problems on health care and treatment compliance. GS-11 is the full performance level of this vacancy. Preferred Experience: Experience in case management and/or discharge planning preferred. Education: Master's degree in social work from a CSWE-accredited school is required. Education must be from an institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Foreign education must be supported by a certificate of foreign equivalency if used to meet qualification requirements. Transcript is required. Physical Requirements: Must be in overall good health and able to sit at a desk working at a computer. Requires light to moderate physical activity including sitting, walking, bending, and carrying supplies. Work is primarily light and sedentary with occasional moderate physical demands. Requires patience and emotional control, with reasonable accommodation if needed, without endangering the health and safety of the Social Worker or others. Requires close visual acuity for preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, and repetitive motions of wrists, hands, and fingers.
