Job Title: Secondary Machinist - 3rd ShiftJob Description This role operates as a key part of the manufacturing team, focusing on secondary machining operations during the 3rd shift. You will prepare, cut, and finish raw materials according to detailed work orders and technical prints, ensuring all components meet strict quality and dimensional requirements. The position requires safe and efficient operation of secondary machines, consistent use of precision measuring tools, and accurate documentation of work performed. You will collaborate closely with teammates, support continuous improvement, and maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused work area.
Responsibilities- Pull raw materials and stock according to work order specifications.
- Measure and cut materials to precise lengths using a cut-off saw.
- Verify material dimensions against technical prints and job requirements.
- Perform finishing operations such as painting, boxing, broaching, balancing, and key-seating.
- Ensure all finishing tasks meet quality standards and customer specifications.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area during and after finishing processes.
- Inspect materials and finished components for defects or deviations.
- Use measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers to verify tolerances.
- Document inspection results accurately and report inconsistencies to supervisors.
- Follow detailed instructions and blueprints to complete assigned work orders.
- Track progress and update job status in production or digital systems as required.
- Collaborate with team members to meet production deadlines and throughput goals.
- Operate machinery and tools safely and efficiently in accordance with established procedures.
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment and promptly report malfunctions.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and consistently wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Train to operate all secondary machines and expand versatility within the department.
- Work outside of the assigned cell when requested by the supervisor to support production needs.
- Maintain accurate records of materials used, tasks completed, and time spent on each job.
- Assist in inventory control by reporting material usage and shortages in a timely manner.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by providing feedback on processes and suggesting enhancements.
Essential Skills- Experience as a CNC operator, machinist, or machine operator in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to operate CNC lathes, mills, and manual machines safely and effectively.
- Proficiency with inspection gauges and measuring tools, including calipers and micrometers.
- Ability to perform machine set-up activities for secondary operations as required.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings with confidence.
- Strong capability to accurately measure, cut, and finish materials to exact specifications.
- Skill in operating cut-off saws, broaching tools, balancing equipment, and other secondary machines.
- Ability to detect defects or inconsistencies in raw materials and finished components through visual and tool-based inspection.
- Basic computer knowledge and aptitude to navigate production systems, input data, and follow digital work instructions.
- Understanding of basic mechanical principles and ability to apply troubleshooting techniques to resolve equipment issues.
- Ability to perform routine maintenance and proactively identify equipment concerns to minimize downtime.
- Ability to safely and effectively use cranes and straps for lifting, positioning, and transporting heavy or oversized materials.
- Willingness and ability to train on and operate various secondary machines and adapt to different tasks as needed.
- Flexibility to work outside the assigned cell at the discretion of the supervisor.
- High School Diploma or GED.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Prior experience in a high-volume manufacturing or machining environment.
- Background in CNC machining with exposure to both lathe and mill operations.
- Familiarity with production tracking systems and digital work instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high quality standards.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a team.
- Comfort working on either 3rd shift (8:00 p.m.-6:00 a.m., Sunday-Wednesday) or 1st shift (6:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., Monday-Friday) as needed by the operation.

Work Environment This role is based in a manufacturing facility with defined shift schedules, including a 3rd shift from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Sunday through Wednesday, and a 1st shift from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. You will work with CNC machines, lathes, mills, manual machines, cut-off saws, broaching tools, balancing equipment, inspection gauges, cranes, and straps. The environment includes regular exposure to noise levels at or above 85 decibels, and hearing protection is required throughout the shift. There is regular exposure to dust particles, and a fresh-air helmet must be worn while completing designated tasks; this equipment requires proper maintenance, storage, and medical clearance by a licensed physician before use. You may experience temperature changes and other weather-related elements depending on the specific work area. Some tasks require working in a booth-like area surrounded by three walls, with sizes varying based on the equipment and materials in use. The role requires consistent use of appropriate PPE and adherence to all safety procedures while maintaining a clean, organized workspace.
Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of CHAMBERSBURG, PA.
Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.80 - $23.55/hr.
