The Rapid Response/ACT RN serves as a hospital-wide critical care resource, providing expert support across the Barnes-Jewish Hospital campus. This highly autonomous role partners with bedside nurses, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams to assess patient deterioration, respond to rapid response and difficult airway events, facilitate escalation of care, and help ensure patients receive timely interventions when clinical conditions change.
Rapid Response RN nurses bring critial care experiance to every care environment, supporting inpatient units and outpatient areas. Responsibilities may include acute patient assessment, IV access, blood draws, cardiac rhythm interpretation, and real-time clinical consultation. Team members are frequently called upon to serve as a second set of eyes, helping validate concerns, coordinate resources, and support complex clinical decision-making for patients requiring a higher level of care.
This role is ideal for experienced critical care nurses who enjoy fast-paced problem-solving, collaboration, mentorship, and practicing at the top of their license outside of a traditional ICU setting. Nurses with backgrounds in Trauma, Neuro, Burn, CVICU, and Medical/Surgical ICU environments are especially well positioned for success.

To provide the hospital with an additional source of Registered Nurses for use by all patient care areas within Barnes-Jewish Hospital. To provide staffing support that accommodates changes in patient census and acuity. To augment staffing needs during unscheduled ETO when other staffing options are not available. To assist in the cost effective utilization of nursing personnel to promote the delivery of quality patient care.
Role Purpose
Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.
