Department: Radiology - General FTE: 0.05 PRN Shift: Rotating Position Summary: Under the direct supervision of a registered radiologic technologist, perform professional duties involved in a variety of technical procedures including the application of prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis. Provide quality service and positive interactions. Assist physicians and staff as requested in selection of practical application and technical factors. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups. Detailed responsibilities: PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right" PROCEDURES - Perform diagnostic and fluoroscopic radiographic procedures including portable and in the OR; operate imaging equipment, computer, and other assistive devices X-RAY - Follow prescribed techniques to administer general and specific x-rays; adjust equipment; calculate exposure factors, position and immobilize patients as necessary, use appropriate lead shielding OBSERVATION - Observe patient and equipment during procedures; document patient reactions or problems in Tech Comments and report immediately to supervising technologist QUALITY CONTROL - Evaluate images for technical qualities and remedies; provide corrective action to improve quality PAPERWORK - Complete and verify all appropriate paperwork involved in but not limited to exams, patient education, lab results and patient check lists PATIENT CARE - Assume care for physical needs of the patient during examinations and procedures IMAGING - Assist physician with imaging process; follow Radiology Department protocols QUALITY CONTROL - Assume responsibility for portions of the quality control programs and provide instruction as required SAFETY - Provide protection to patients, family members, staff and self in accordance with prescribed radiation safety standards and ALARA SUPPLIES - Clean assigned area; maintain stock supply levels through inventory control PATIENT ASSISTANCE - Assist in reception and scheduling areas; aid patients and transport them, as necessary FLOAT - May be required to float to another work assignment/area Qualifications Education: Essential: Training Education specialization: Essential: Radiologic Technology Experience: Essential: Completion of first year of didactic education and clinical training Nonessential: Credentials: Essential: CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days Physical Conditions: Working conditions: Essential: Sig Hazard: Chemicals, Bio Hazardous Materials req PPE Tuberculosis testing is completed upon hire and additionally as required Department: Clinical Care
