Pouch Department Lead
The Pouch Department Lead assists leading the daily operations of the pouch department while safely operating Totani and/or Hudson Sharp pouch-making equipment. This position provides hands-on leadership to department personnel, ensuring production goals, quality standards, safety requirements, and customer specifications are consistently achieved. This role will assist with basic machinery maintenance, assist training team members, coordinating workflow, and promoting continuous improvement throughout the department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership
Lead, coach, and support pouch department personnel to ensure a safe, productive, and positive work environment.
Assign daily work based on production schedules and department priorities.
Monitor employee performance and provide ongoing coaching and training.
Promote teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement within the department.
Communicate production updates, equipment issues, and shift priorities to management and incoming shifts.
Safety
Champion all company safety initiatives and actively participate in the STOP Safety Program with the goal of achieving zero accidents.
Ensure all employees follow established safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Participate in safety meetings, investigations, and corrective action initiatives.
Identify potential hazards and recommend improvements to maintain a safe work environment.
Production
Operate Totani and/or Hudson Sharp pouch-making equipment as needed while providing technical support to operators.
Coordinate machine setups, changeovers, and production schedules to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime.
Read, interpret, and utilize job jackets, manufacturing specifications, pouch specifications, and print specification sheets.
Monitor production output to ensure schedules and productivity goals are met.
Troubleshoot mechanical and process issues and coordinate maintenance support when necessary.
Safely operate roll handling equipment to load and unload production materials.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum 3-5 years of experience operating Totani and/or Hudson Sharp pouch-making equipment in a flexible packaging manufacturing environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experience and knowledge of Totani and/or Hudson Sharp pouch-making equipment.
Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
Working knowledge of flexible packaging materials and pouch manufacturing processes.
Ability to read and interpret manufacturing specifications, technical documents, and production orders.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Mathematical skills including the ability to calculate measurements, percentages, and production metrics.
Physical Requirements
Frequently stand, walk, bend, reach, kneel, crouch, climb, and balance throughout the workday.
Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Safely operate material handling equipment.
Possess close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, moving machinery, and varying temperatures.
