Job Description

Retina Ophthalmology Opportunity in Lexington, Kentucky

Join the top private retina group in Lexington, giving you an unmatched referral base and a market position that's virtually impossible to replicate. This is a full-scope surgical and medical retina opportunity within a well-established, physician-led group built for high-volume, high-earning providers.

Practice Overview

  • You'll join an 8-physician, retina-only group with dominant referral networks across two major markets, with no meaningful private retina competition in either city
  • Full surgical and medical retina scope, including complex vitreoretinal cases; expect approximately 40 intravitreal injections daily alongside 20-30 surgical cases per week
  • One dedicated surgical day per week with strong infrastructure support
  • Call is retina-only on a 1:5 rotation, with fellows absorbing the bulk of volume; call burden is low (0-2 calls)

Schedule

  • Patient volume runs 60-100 encounters per day per provider, with a clear split between clinic and procedural time
  • One dedicated surgical day per week keeps your OR time structured and predictable
  • 4 or 5-day workweek is available, offering real flexibility to design a schedule that fits your life
  • Weekend burden is minimal given the fellow-supported call structure

Compensation & Benefits

  • Years 1-2 include a base guarantee of $500,000-$650,000 with a 34% incentive bonus on top; verified individual annual earnings reach $1.5M-$2M+ once established
  • Years 1-3+ shift to net collections model with tiered payouts of 34%, 37.5%, and then 40%, plus 25% drug margin participation
  • A $50,000 sign-on bonus and relocation assistance are included; early commitment bonus structure is available for 2026/2027 fellows, paid monthly leading up to your start date
  • Benefits include malpractice coverage and participation in a physician-led organization with preserved clinical autonomy

Candidate Requirements

  • Retina fellowship training in surgical or medical retina is required; surgical comfort is strongly preferred
  • Board certified or board eligible
  • 2026/2027 graduates actively encouraged; experienced candidates welcome
  • Must currently be located in the U.S., including J-1 and H-1B visa holders

Community & Location Highlights

  • Lexington is a livable mid-size city with a strong physician community, excellent housing options, and a cost of living below comparable metro markets
  • University of Kentucky athletics, a vibrant arts and dining scene, and access to the natural landscape of the Bluegrass region make for an engaging quality of life
  • Strong public and private school options support families at every stage; the broader region offers outdoor recreation, horse country, and easy weekend escapes
  • A regional airport with convenient connections keeps travel accessible for both professional and personal needs
