Manager, Embedded Software Engineering

HOURS: Full-time, 40 hours per week SALARY: $163,550 per year EMPLOYER: Advanced Bionics LLC JOBSITE: 28515 Westinghouse Place Valencia, CA 91355 Job Duties: Apply knowledge of engineering, biology, and bioelectrical principles to the research and development of electronic hardware and software systems lifecycle activities and new technologies for cochlear implants. Oversee the design, implementation, testing, and optimization of firmware (embedded software) that is critical to the performance and functionality of cochlear implant devices. Lead and manage a team of firmware and software engineers, using knowledge of embedded systems, low-level software development, and real-time operating systems. Provide guidance, mentoring, and technical expertise to drive excellence in firmware development for cochlear implants. Use good oral and written communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, signal processing experts, and quality assurance professionals, to define software requirements and ensure seamless integration with the overall system. Develop and maintain embedded software architecture, ensuring efficient and reliable operation of cochlear implant devices. Responsible for overseeing the entire firmware development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation in close collaboration with the Test Manager to ensure comprehensive and effective testing strategies are implemented. Use programming languages, such as C/C++, to effectively design and program firmware for cochlear implants. Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory standards, such as FDA guidelines, in the development and documentation of embedded software for medical devices. Drive continuous improvement in firmware development processes, tools, and methodologies to enhance efficiency, quality, and reliability. Collaborate with external stakeholders, such as research institutions and industry partners, to stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends in firmware development for cochlear implants. Supervises a team of Embedded Software Engineers and Firmware Engineers. Domestic and international travel (Canada and Switzerland) to manufacturing sites, office locations, and suppliers (up to 10%). Work on-site a minimum of 3 days/week and then may work remotely from home (within Los Angeles County). Schedule subject to director approval. Requirements: 1. U.S. Bachelors degree (or foreign degree equivalent) in Computer/Software Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related engineering field, and 4 years of experience as an Embedded Software Engineer, Firmware Engineer, Biomedical Engineer, or a related engineering occupation in the medical device industry. 2. Must have experience with the following: - Embedded Software Development - Embedded Systems - Cochlear Implants - Firmware Development Lifecycle - Low-level Software Development - Real-time Operating Systems - C/C++ Programming - Regulatory Standards for Medical Devices 3. Must have good oral and written communication skills. 4. Domestic and international travel (Canada and Switzerland) to manufacturing sites, office locations, and suppliers (up to 10%).
