Machine Shop Supervisor

$20-30/hr. Second Shift 2:30pm-1:00am.

The shop Supervisor will be responsible for managing the night shift in the manual machine shop with

production requirements. The position requires a person with machine shop experience who can lead

a group of people with minimal supervision. The shop Supervisor will meet daily with the

Production Manager to discuss scheduling, productivity, and shop needs. This person will be

considered the main point of contact for the facility during/ after-hours and will be the direct report

for the machine shop staff.

Specific responsibilities may include:

Studies production schedules and estimates worker-hour requirements for completion of job assignment.

Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.

Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers and assigns duties.

Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules, using knowledge of the capacities of existing machines and equipment.

Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of products and suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of department.

Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists worker in solving work problems.

Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.

Recommends or initiates personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, discharges and/or disciplinary

measures.

May train new workers.

Maintain time and production records as applicable.

May estimate, requisition, and inspect materials.

May confer with other Supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.

May confer with workers to resolve grievances.

May set up machine and equipment.

When supervising workers in one occupation, is required to be fully conversant with the problems which

may be encountered in the performance of that occupation.

Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

- EDUCATION AND TRAINING

High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

Bilingual preferred

- EXPERIENCE

Production Worker/Leadman preferred.

- KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Leadership skills

OSHA safety knowledge

Knowledge of all equipment located in the supervised area and be able to make suggestions necessary for machine improvements. This would include manual lathes, threading machines.

Able to analyze problems and arrive at a reasonable solution.

Strong interpersonal communication skills.

Computer skills.

Able to read micrometer, calipers, gages, and other measuring tools.

Able to read and understand blueprints and drawings.

- PHYSICAL AND SAFETY

Must be able to stand, and/or walk for up to 3 hours at a time.

Must be able to exert 20-50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 lbs. of force frequently, and/or

constantly move objects weighing up to 10 pounds.

Must be able to vertically lift 35 lb. object 3 foot high.

Must comply with any safety or PPE requirements.

Exposure to production environment.

Exposure to hot and cold weather.
