About the Role

We are seeking a Journeyman Engineer to join our team at our Stockton, CA bakery. Maintain bakery equipment and facility systems in a safe, sanitary and reliable operating condition to support production requirements. Troubleshoot, repair and maintain equipment while supporting preventive maintenance, food safety, operational reliability and the development of other maintenance team members.

  • Shift: Varies between 2nd and 3rd
  • Hours: 2p-10:30p OR 10p-6:30a: Tues-Sat OR Sun-Thurs
  • Weekend availability: Required
  • Overtime: May be required
Compensation
  • Hourly Rate: $39.26
Core Accountabilities (What You'll Be Doing)
  • Maintain facility and production equipment in a safe, sanitary and operational state of readiness to support daily production requirements.
  • Troubleshoot, identify and correct maintenance issues involving electrical systems, steam, water, hydraulics, pneumatics, refrigeration, boilers, valves, motors and related equipment.
  • Ensure maintenance tools, work areas and serviced equipment are maintained in a safe and sanitary condition. Verify all guards and safety devices are properly installed before returning equipment to operation.
  • Support the production of consistent, food safe products by maintaining equipment and facility systems in accordance with established maintenance, engineering and food safety practices.
  • Develop and maintain an advanced understanding of bakery production equipment, processes, fermentation systems and equipment functionality.
  • Communicate effectively with maintenance team members, supervisors, production leaders and other departments to ensure equipment issues are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, equipment drawings, blueprints and technical documentation.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers, three wire motor controls, electrical troubleshooting and related automation systems.
  • Complete required Lockout Tagout authorized user training and follow all applicable safety procedures.
  • Perform routine inspections of the facility and production equipment to identify maintenance concerns, safety hazards and opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain working knowledge of welding, electrical systems, refrigeration, pneumatics, steam boilers, gear reducers and other mechanical systems used within the bakery.
  • Coordinate Industrial and maintenance activities in accordance with applicable safety requirements and maintain respirator certification when required for assigned duties.
  • Maintain advanced knowledge of the maintenance and repair of bakery equipment and independently troubleshoot complex equipment failures.
  • Support root cause identification and recommend corrective actions to improve equipment reliability and reduce recurring failures.
  • Assist with training and development of maintenance team members with less experience when assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Manager.
  • Provide leadership and technical direction to other mechanics during assigned shifts or maintenance activities when requested by the Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Manager.
  • Maintain clear communication regarding equipment status, repairs completed, outstanding concerns and required follow up.
  • Perform other maintenance duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Serve as primary backup to the Maintenance Supervisor and support special projects as assigned
Minimum Qualifications (What You Bring to the Table)
  • English literacy at an elementary level
  • 3-5 years of mechanic experience in a food manufacturing environment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with electrical troubleshooting capability
  • Ability to read, complete, and document work orders and maintenance records
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without accommodation
  • Ability to work safely around moving mechanical parts and in wet, humid, hot, cold, and dusty environments
Preferred Qualifications (Extra Ingredients for Success)
  • Electrical experience in food manufacturing facilities
  • GMP and HACCP certification (in house or equivalent)
  • Forklift (sit down and stand up) certification
  • Boom and scissor lift certification
  • Experience supporting maintenance leadership or supervisory functions

Additional pay may be determined for those candidates that exceed these specified qualifications and requirements.
