Group Fitness Instructor (NIFS)

Summary

A Group Fitness Instructor ("Instructor") educates and leads participants in Group Fitness classes with a focus towards assisting them in achieving their fitness goals in a safe and friendly manner. The instructor ensures the safe instruction of each class and works to inspire our members to partake in group fitness activities.

Essential Duties

• Demonstrates proper and safe use of equipment, including stereo and microphone; reports any equipment concerns to the Fitness Center Assistant Manager.
• Pays constant attention to fitness level, special needs and age group of class and teaches accordingly.
• Exhibits professionalism when dealing with class participants, facility members and staff.
• Projects enthusiasm, motivation, a positive personality and a willingness to help all members and guests.
• Uses appropriate format for every class; adds variety to classes.

• Provides participants with up-to-date information on current programs and promotional activities.
• Demonstrates work ethic, ingenuity, customer care, and attention to detail.
• Limits securing a substitute to an average of once a month.
• Maintains attendance records for each class per the direction of the Fitness Center Assistant Manager.
• Submits accurate and timely payroll records, noting the paid class rate includes compensation for all time worked in scheduling, preparation, delivery and class wrap-up.
• Demonstrates familiarity with and abides by the policies stated in the NIFS Employee Handbook.
• Performs other duties as assigned or where opportunities are presented.

Qualifications

• Education and/or Experience
  • Current Group Fitness Certification and/or post-high school education which demonstrates appropriate knowledge base for safely teaching group exercise classes
• Computer Skills
  • Once trained, the employee should be capable of accurately using the NIFS Payroll system
• Certifications
  • Current Group Fitness Instructor certification, specialty certifications as appropriate
  • Current CPR certification required
  • Trained in Universal Precautions annually (provided by NIFS)
• Language Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as NIFS or client rules/policies, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to speak and write accurately and effectively in English
• Other Requirements
  • May, at any time, be required to submit to and successfully pass a thorough background check and/or drug screen
  • Must have regular and reliable transportation to and from work

The employee must regularly lift and /or move more than 45 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 75 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, weight machines and free weights. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
