GA Responsibilities

Basic function and responsibility

Under the general guidance of the Director of Campus Safety, the Campus Safety GA will perform a variety of duties to ensure the safety of both Campus Community and Campus facilities, through enforcing University policies and procedures.

Characteristic duties

• Routine patrols of University grounds.
• Respond to emergency calls for assistance including medical matters, fire alarms, safety escorts, building let-ins, etc.
• Documenting violations of college policy and other events by producing written incident reports.
• Lock and unlock campus buildings.
• Performs scheduled physical safety checks of campus facilities, ensuring facilities are in use by appropriate personnel.
• Enforce parking policies through issuance of parking tickets and booting/towing of vehicles when necessary.
• Work closely with members of the local police and sheriff departments on matters of mutual concern relating to the safety of the campus community.
• Campus Safety members are not sworn police officers.
• Observes and identifies people involved in suspicious activities and ensures that unauthorized persons leave the campus community.
• Implementation and training OKWU community for OKWU Lockdown procedures.
• Maintain a shift log.
• Work 20 hours per week.
• During the working hours, Safety GA's are required to wear their safety uniform.
• Maintain radio communication with other safety personal and officers on campus.
• Monitoring campus using surveillance systems.
• Issuing parking permits.
• Must be able to work both evening and weekend schedule if needed.
• Provides on-campus escorts to College students and personnel as requested.
• Provides timely written reports to the Director of Campus Safety.
• Performs other duties if considered necessary under the guidance of the Director, via chain of command.
• Work Winter and Spring Commencement events
• Work university-wide special events when called upon by the Office of the President
