Job Description Job Description Do you know the difference between a good knife and a great knife?
Do you get excited about kitchen tools that actually make cooking easier?
Do you enjoy helping someone solve a problem almost as much as you enjoy solving one yourself?
We're looking for a full-time, long-term teammate to join our independent kitchen store. We need someone with Back-of-House Knowledge and a Front-of-House Personality. Someone who understands cooking, loves learning, and genuinely enjoys helping people create better experiences in their kitchens.
Our ideal person:- Loves cooking and potentially has some formal training or experience in a commercial kitchen
- Enjoys teaching, learning, and sharing knowledge with a diverse group of people
- Can talk to a professional chef, a first-time cook, and everyone in between
- Gets a little dopamine hit when they help someone find the perfect solution
- Takes pride in maintaining a clean, beautiful, organized, welcoming space
- Likes working with a small, close-knit team where everyone pitches in
- Can happily chat with customers and roll up their sleeves when a big shipment arrives
We're looking for someone who wants to grow with us and is excited to learn the behind the scenes side of running a kitchen store. This includes learning how to write purchase orders, manage inventory, receive shipments, and ensuring vendor invoices are accurately recorded in QuickBooks and paid on time.
You'll help customers choose tools they'll actually love using, support store operations, learn the business side of retail, and become part of a team that cares about doing things differently.
The right person is probably NOT:- Someone looking for "just a retail job"
- Someone who avoids talking to people
- Someone who thinks cleaning, organizing, and behind-the-scenes work are beneath them
- Someone who needs every day planned out for them
We're a small operation, which means initiative matters. We love people who see something that needs doing and just do it.
What you'll do- Getting up to greet all customers warmly - share story of store, connection of adjacent businesses & their missions to new customers, gleefully sharing favorite things in store, asking customer questions about lifestyle and needs to help them find what they need
- General shared cleaning throughout day - dusting, sweeping, taking out trash, maintaining a neat and organized environment
- Having broad and technical knowledge of products and services in store
- Help update and maintain store accurate price signage and posters
- Ensuring products are clean and neatly displayed noting when things low or out of stock
- Help create and track purchase orders
- Receiving new products and communicating issues
- Entering invoices into quickbooks
- Finding productive ways to utilize time when customers not in store
- Opening and closing duties
- Willingness to be videos in or help film for social media marketing director is a plus
- Learn to teach classes or develop new classes is a plus
- Proficiency with Mac (numbers, pages, etc), Shopify, Quickbooks, and Canva a plus
Scheduling Our ideal teammate is someone who understands that small businesses ebb and flow with the seasons and is comfortable with some flexibility throughout the year.
The starting schedule is expected to be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, with some flexibility depending on the right person and business needs. Saturday availability is especially important November-December.
Because we're a small team, we rely on each other and do our best to support one another when life happens. Whether that means helping cover an unexpected situation, adjusting for planned events, or jumping in during especially busy times.
We're looking for someone who enjoys being part of a team where everyone contributes, communicates, and helps make the whole operation better.
One special note: our annual inventory process takes place on New Year's Day, and this position includes being available to help with inventory on January 1st
We are closed: Easter, July 4th, Thanksgiving, Christmas
In return, we offer: - Better-than-average retail pay ($20/hr starting pay)
- Healthcare stipend
- Wellness services
- Stupidly good employee discount
- End-of-year bonus opportunities
- A fun, slightly ridiculous, people first work environment
- The chance to learn, grow, and be part of something local
And yes there will be shenanigans.
If you're the kind of person who gets excited about kitchen tools, loves people, and wants to help make cooking better for others, we'd love to meet you.
About Us We're not interested in being "just another kitchen store." Our goal is to create a place where people feel welcome, curious, and excited about cooking; whether they're a professional chef, a lifelong home cook, or someone buying their first good knife.
The best customer interactions here don't feel like sales pitches. They feel like conversations: sharing ideas, solving problems, teaching each other something new, and helping people find tools they'll actually love using.
Quality matters to us. We carefully choose kitchen gear that performs well at every price point, with a focus on products that are built to last and thoughtful alternatives to plastic options. We believe buying fewer, better things is better for your kitchen and the planet.
This store started because we wanted our community to have access to a wider variety of high-quality kitchen tools, especially when it comes to kitchen knives. Too many people were settling for whatever was available locally, and we knew there was a better experience possible.
Our roots are in sharpening, and that passion still drives everything we do. We take enormous pride in providing sharpening services that are exceptional from the actual edge on the blade to the entire customer experience. Expanding into a full kitchen store was a natural next step: creating a place where people can not only restore the tools they love, but discover the tools that will help them cook, create, and enjoy their kitchens even more.
Because we're an independent business, every team member has a real impact. We value people who bring ideas, ask questions, and want to help shape what this store becomes.
