About this position: Electrical Systems Operator in Wahiawa, HI The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position and are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job. Essential Duties & Responsibilities The Electrical Systems Operator (ESO) operates and maintains systems and equipment including but not limited to breakers, substations, switchgear, power distribution units, motor control centers, uninterruptable power supplies, panel boards, variable frequency drives, generators, transformers, programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and a variety of other electrical equipment. Use the Government's electrical system management software, SCADA, to operate and control all electrical systems in a safe, efficient, and effective manner. Monitor controlled systems for performance and problems. Evaluate day to day operations on all electrical distribution components, generators, UPSs, switches, motor control centers, variable frequency drives and other monitored electrical systems. Coordinate plant changes with building management, maintenance, and operations personnel. Observe and interpret readings on gauges, meters and charts which register various aspects of the system's operation, adjusting controls to insure safe and efficient operation of the system and to meet demands for the service provided. Initiate immediate responses and system manipulations to alarms and emergency conditions to maintain uninterrupted system service to the maximum extent possible. Assists with directing and coordinating activities of other trades workers in performing tasks directly related to operating and maintaining the system or systems. Coordinate system outages with Government personnel, critical use customers, maintenance personnel, and other vendors having activities that impact electrical systems. Provide daily plant status reports to reflect the condition of electrical systems. Conduct routine system tours to inspect and monitor maintenance activities, corrective actions, and outages. Provide technical expertise for troubleshooting and assist in all aspects of system repairs to ensure full functionality of electrical systems. Proper use of the special precautionary techniques, PPE, including arc flash, insulating and shielding materials, and insulated tools and test equipment. Make timely notifications of facilities emergencies to all impacted parties and the Facility Watch Officer/Building Systems Manager. Respond to and/or dispatch facilities personnel to emergencies and routine service calls. Make corrections and assist with repairs as needed to restore systems to normal operations. Prepare and review daily operations logs and alarm summaries to ensure that follow up actions are taken, and systems are proven functional. Develop operator logs to reflect plant reconfigurations, problem responses, and electrical system impacts. Assist with and perform system repairs and routine maintenance activities. Assist software and IT personnel with SCADA system by troubleshooting, debugging, upgrades, programming, calibration of hardware/software devices, configuration, and system testing. Perform functional system checks of all control systems and document results. Works with call center to log and identify problem areas in the building. Performs other duties as assigned. Required (Minimum Necessary) Qualifications Education Requirements: High School Diploma or GED Minimum ten (10) years' experience performing work on electrical distribution systems Minimum two (2) years' of experience in monitoring and controlling major facilities electrical systems including UPS, power generation and SCADA/EMCS Working knowledge of power grid, emergency generation, and critical electrical infrastructure systems to support multi-building campuses Works independently Expertise in manual and virtual switching operations Experience troubleshooting alarms, undesired equipment conditions, and completing corrective actions US Citizen Basic familiarity with mathematical functions. Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check and pre-hire drug test. Ability to use Excel and Microsoft Word at an intermediate level. Ability to obtain & maintain valid Driver's License and an acceptable driving record. Basic knowledge and experience with MAXIMO Work in an office environment.Be able to lift 25lbs. Sitting for long periods of time. Attention to detail - producing accurate, error free work. DOT Covered/Safety-Sensitive Role Requirements This position is not subject to federal requirements regarding Department of Transportation "safety-sensitive" functions. Additional Qualifying Factors As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and have acceptable background check results. If applicable to the contract, you must also obtain and maintain the appropriate clearance levels required and must also be able to obtain access to military installations.
