A new commercial printing company in Chicago is seeking an experienced Bindery Technician to join its production team. This position requires a versatile finishing professional who can independently set up, operate, troubleshoot, and maintain multiple pieces of bindery equipment.
Set up and operate multiple types of bindery and finishing equipment
Review job tickets, samples, and production specifications before beginning each job
Perform accurate machine setups, changeovers, and adjustments
Monitor quality throughout production and make corrections as needed
Troubleshoot mechanical, feeding, registration, and finishing issues
Perform routine preventive maintenance and minor equipment repairs
Inspect completed work for accurate folds, cuts, signatures, pagination, binding, and overall appearance
Maintain production speeds while minimizing waste and downtime
Record production information and communicate job status to supervisors
Follow all company safety, quality, and housekeeping procedures
Assist with training less-experienced bindery employees when needed
Qualified candidates must have hands-on experience with at least one type of commercial bindery or finishing equipment, such as:
Polar, Saber, or similar programmable paper cutters
Stahl, MBO, Baumfolder, or similar folding machines
Muller Martini, Heidelberg, or similar saddle stitchers
Perfect binders
Three-knife trimmers
Die cutters
Punching and drilling equipment
Shrink-wrapping and packaging equipment
Collators, booklet makers, laminators, UV coaters, or other finishing machinery
Minimum of three years of commercial printing, bindery, or finishing experience preferred
Demonstrated ability to independently operate multiple pieces of bindery equipment
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
Ability to read job tickets, production specifications, measurements, and folding diagrams
Knowledge of paper stocks, grain direction, coatings, adhesives, and finishing processes
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
Ability to work efficiently in a deadline-driven production environment
Willingness to work overtime when production demands require it
Ability to stand for extended periods and safely lift materials used in bindery operations
