Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced CNC Vertical Turning Lathe (VTL) Machinist to join their manufacturing team on the night shift. This is a hands-on role responsible for machine setup, operation, quality verification, and troubleshooting while producing precision-machined components in a fast-paced production environment.

The ideal candidate will have experience operating Vertical Turning Lathes, interpreting blueprints, performing setups, making machine adjustments, and maintaining tight tolerances. Experience with Okuma and/or Toshiba machines with Fanuc controls is highly preferred, although experience with similar equipment will also be considered.

12-hour night shift 6pm-6am (M-F)

60+ hours a week (great OT opportunity)

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC Vertical Turning Lathe (VTL) machines
  • Perform machine setups, tooling changes, and machine adjustments as required
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and production specifications
  • Inspect parts using precision measuring instruments to ensure quality and dimensional accuracy
  • Monitor machine performance and make tool wear offsets as needed
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and make necessary corrections to maintain quality standards
  • Operate multi-axis equipment including 3-axis and 4-axis machines
  • Maintain production efficiency while adhering to safety and quality requirements
  • Complete production documentation and inspection records accurately

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience writing, editing, and optimizing CNC programs using G-code and M-code
  • Experience with Okuma and/or Toshiba machines utilizing Fanuc controls
  • Ability to troubleshoot machining processes and improve cycle times
  • Experience machining large components and maintaining tight tolerances
  • 3-5 years of CNC Vertical Turning Lathe (VTL) experience required
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings
  • Experience using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and other precision measuring tools
  • Ability to perform independent machine setups and adjustments
  • Experience making offsets and compensating for tool wear
  • Experience operating multi-axis CNC equipment
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
