Building Plant Operator

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Pre-Employment Process: Applicants must pass a background check, including fingerprinting, pre-employment physical/drug test, and verification of employment history prior to appointment. Physical:This position requires frequent walking and standing; continuous lifting of items weighing up to ten (10) pounds and occasionally up to sixty (60) pounds. Environment:Incumbents work in small or limited spaces; exposure to electricity, chemicals, and infectious areas; exposure to atmospheric pressure, fire, heat, oil and odors; and the use of specialized protective equipment or clothing. Travel:Travel throughout the county may be required. Employees will be required to make provision for transportation. At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced and maintained for the individual providing transportation. Availability: The County has facilities which operate 24/7; work schedule will vary to ensure coverage. The incumbent may occasionally be required to work overtime. Certification: Must obtain EPA 608 Universal Certification within six (6) months of hire. Minimum Requirements: Experience: Two (2) years of journey-level experience operating and maintaining boilers AND chillers, including related auxiliary equipment for building systems. Desired Qualifications: The ideal candidate will possess the LA City Steam License, or equivalent Steam Engineer license, or have experience working with a variety of building management/automated systems (BMS/BAS). Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess experience overhauling and cleaning boilers, monitoring chillers, pipe fitting, and repairing pneumatic and electrical/electronic control devices.
