Acute Care Surgeon - Trauma & Surgical Critical Care opening in Missouri- Full time- Springfield, Mo Position Highlights Join an established team of eight Acute Care Surgeons , with a ninth physician being recruited due to continued program growth. Practice at a state-designated Level I Trauma Center and major regional referral center serving Southwest Missouri. Broad clinical practice encompassing trauma surgery, emergency general surgery, and surgical critical care . Manage a diverse, high-acuity patient population within a well-supported tertiary care environment. Supported by an experienced team of Advanced Practice Providers and multidisciplinary specialists. Balanced schedule across trauma, ICU, and acute care surgery services. Collaborative call structure designed to promote sustainable workloads and work-life balance. Opportunity to participate in resident education, physician mentorship, clinical research, and program development based on individual interests. Clinical Responsibilities Evaluate and surgically manage patients presenting with traumatic injuries and acute surgical conditions. Provide emergency general surgery for a broad range of urgent and complex conditions. Manage critically ill surgical and trauma patients within the ICU. Perform operative and non-operative management of complex trauma cases. Coordinate care with Emergency Medicine, Critical Care, Anesthesiology, Radiology, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, and other specialty teams. Participate in trauma activation and acute care surgery coverage. Utilize minimally invasive and robotic surgical approaches when clinically appropriate. Participate in multidisciplinary clinical pathways focused on improving patient outcomes, efficiency, and continuity of care. Contribute to quality improvement, trauma program initiatives, patient safety, and clinical protocol development. Participate in education, mentorship, and research activities if desired. Expanding utilization of robotic and minimally invasive techniques within acute care surgery. Qualifications MD or DO from an accredited medical school. Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery . Fellowship training in Surgical Critical Care required . Current or eligible unrestricted Missouri medical license. Strong operative and clinical skills across trauma surgery, emergency general surgery, and critical care. Ability to effectively manage complex and critically ill surgical patients. Strong communication skills and commitment to multidisciplinary, team-based care.
