WHO WE ARE

The SPCA of Polk County is the oldest nonprofit no kill animal welfare organization in Polk County, having served the community for over 45 years, through pet adoptions, rehabilitation, transport, community programs and more recently a low cost spay, neuter and wellness clinic. With a facility over 10,000 sq. ft. located in Livingston, TX and caring for 150+ dogs and cats at any time.

We believe in fostering a work environment that enables innovation and involvement to meet the challenges of our animal welfare society, providing support and training to help employee development and opportunities within the animal welfare industry.

JOB DESCRIPTION

An animal welfare representative is a key element of our society by providing the highest level of service and care to all visitors and animals, leveraging developed skills to improve daily operations through client engagements, verbally, telephonically and electronically. With attention to detail and strong organizational and communicative skills, a representative would process one-on-one adoptions with clients, ensuring a carefully placed match, schedule appointments for various services, update animal records, develop and share communications, manage and maintain the work environment to ensure presentation and hygiene is of the highest standard.

HOURS

  • 22.5 to 37.5 per week
  • Monday - Saturday

DUTIES

General

  • Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's)

Customer Service

  • To always provide the highest level of customer service to all visitors via in-person, telephone, email, social media or other methods of communication.

Adoptions & Admissions

  • To perform animal adoptions for those seeking companions using tools and methods at your disposal
  • To assist in matching suitable pets with adopters, through evaluation and best interests
  • Communicating the adoption process, expectations and services provided with adopters
  • To update all pet records on paper and digital to ensure clear and concise information is recorded
  • Processing admissions to foster or facility, capturing key details to record on records
  • Providing information about admissions to visitors and supporting their needs within our ability

Administrative

  • Collection of all mail, including distribution of mail to relevant parties
  • To manage, forward, respond and/or follow up on all central communications via email, telephone, social media, communication boards and records.
  • To create and issue reports to all relevant parties on activities
  • To manage, track and log office supplies inventory, report on low quantities to relevant parties
  • To update, replace or create posters, signs or banners as needed for events, changes, announcements etc.
  • To regularly review and update animal records, including pictures, weights, behavior/personality etc.
  • To process payments for services, products, donations etc. and manage cash balances.

Other

  • To always clean and maintain your area of work
  • Assist with moving, loading, unloading of supplies and equipment.
  • Other tasks as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

  • Customer service experience required, preferably in a nonprofit and/or animal welfare environment
  • Competent use of IT equipment and programs (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint etc.)
  • Previous knowledge of pet management and/or veterinary medical databases preferrable
  • Knowledge of basic animal behavior and proper methods of animal restraint.
  • Able to understand and carry out oral and written directions.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is performed in an animal shelter. Potential for exposure to high noise levels, zoonotic diseases, animal waste, hazardous chemicals, sharp objects and potential hostile persons or dangerous animals.

  • Ability to lift and carry objects and animals of moderate weight
  • Ability to lift, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, push and other strenuous activities
  • Walking and/or standing for long periods
  • May be required to handle difficult animals
