<b>Description:</b> <b>Job Summary:</b> <br>To provide qualified surgical assistance when requested by the surgeon, in order to ensure optimal results for the patient. This position is adjunct to the basic functions of the OR Nurse.<br> <b>Essential Responsibilities:</b> <br><ul> <br><li>See OR Nurse representative duties.</li> <br><li>RNs as first assistants in the OR will work interdependently with the surgeon, providing a safe operation with optimal results for the patient.</li> <br><li>The Registered Nurse First Assistant will at all times act under the direct supervision of the Surgeon performing only those functions specifically stated in a manner consistent with his/her education and experience.</li> <br><li>All assignments will be made by the ASC Supervisor or designee, with regard to optimum patient care.</li> <br><li>Knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology and operative technique pertaining to the procedure being.</li> <br><li>Skill and knowledge in applying principles of asepsis and infection control.</li> <br><li>Assists in positioning, propping and draping of the patient.</li> <br><li>Provides hemostasis by applying hemostatic clamps and/or clips, coagulates bleeding points and, ligates vessels.</li> <br><li>Provides exposure by suctioning sponging and retracting.</li> <br><li>Handles tissue, implants, etc., as directed by the surgeon during operative procedure.</li> <br><li>Performs other related duties as directed.</li> </ul> <b>Basic Qualifications:</b> <u>Experience</u> <br><ul> <br> <li>Minimum two (2) years of perioperative nursing experience required.</li> <br> </ul> <u>Education</u> <br><ul> <li>Graduate of accredited school of nursing required.</li> <li>Successful completion of an RN First Assistant Program to include a multi-specialty didactic component and seventy-five (75) hours clinical experience required.</li> </ul> <u>License, Certification, Registration</u> <ul><li>This job requires credentials from multiple states. Credentials from the primary work state are required at hire. Additional Credentials from the secondary work state(s) are required post hire.</li></ul> <ul><li>Registered Nurse License (Virginia) within 6 months of hire AND Registered Nurse License (Maryland) within 6 months of hire </li></ul> OR <ul><li>Compact License: Registered Nurse within 6 months of hire </li></ul> <ul><li>Registered Nurse License (District of Columbia) within 6 months of hire</li></ul> <ul><li>Basic Life Support</li></ul> <ul><li>Nurse Operating Room Certificate</li></ul> <b>Additional Requirements:</b> <br><ul><li>In order to work effectively with patients, must have effective interpersonal and communication skills and be able to stand, walk, bend, lift at least 50 pounds, hears, speak, and see.</li></ul> <b>Preferred Qualifications:</b> <br><ul><li>N/A</li></ul><img src="https://www.jobg8.com/Tracking.aspx?8oLC%2fwVESyAGDSXrQ4o1%2bsHU9aqakhVGn" width="0" height="0" />
