This individual will serve as a technical authority, guiding complex projects from concept through construction while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with cross-functional teams.<br><br>Key Responsibilities<br><br>Direct mechanical system design for specialized environments requiring stringent temperature, humidity, pressure, and air quality control.<br>Develop custom HVAC and utility solutions incorporating advanced filtration, dehumidification strategies, specialty piping systems, and redundancy planning.<br>Perform detailed psychrometric evaluations and apply practical duct and piping sizing methodologies grounded in real-world performance.<br>Lead energy modeling and system performance analyses to optimize efficiency and sustainability outcomes.<br>Produce clear and comprehensive control narratives, sequences of operation, technical specifications, and performance criteria.<br>Guide advanced modeling efforts in Revit and AutoCAD, including complex coordination of sloped sanitary/process piping and system integration.<br>Collaborate closely with clients, contractors, and internal disciplines to ensure alignment with project objectives and regulatory standards.<br>Conduct field observations, support commissioning efforts, and facilitate post-project evaluations to continuously improve delivery.<br>Mentor junior engineers and review critical deliverables for technical accuracy and compliance.<br>Contribute to firm-wide innovation initiatives by evaluating emerging technologies and recommending strategic improvements.<br><br>Required Qualifications<br><br>Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline).<br>Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.<br>10+ years of progressive experience in mechanical system design.<br>Demonstrated expertise in psychrometrics, humidity/dew point control, redundancy strategies, and high-performance mechanical systems.<br>Advanced proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.<br>Experience designing for regulated or mission-critical environments.<br><br>Preferred Experience<br><br>Background supporting highly controlled or technical facilities (e.g., research, advanced manufacturing, data-driven infrastructure, or similar).<br>Experience developing fee proposals, control diagrams, and detailed technical specifications.<br>Strong client-facing communication skills with the ability to translate complex requirements into actionable design strategies.<br><br>Additional Information<br><br>Hybrid work schedule (3 days onsite; 2 days remote).<br>Multiple office locations available; North Carolina locations are strongly preferred.<br>Interview process typically includes two virtual discussions followed by an in-person meeting, with decisions made quickly.<br><br>Interested in hearing more?
